Launched in 2014, VANGUARDIST is a testament to Michaels pursuit of the best terroirs in South Australia, initially focusing on single-vineyard expressions of premium varieties. Over the years, VANGUARDIST has evolved from its experimental La Petite Vanguard range into Botanic, a refined collection emphasising precision, purity, and terroir. The 2024 vintage reflects this focus, offering vibrant freshness and intense flavours. Riesling, hand-picked and foot-crushed, is naturally fermented in a 900L egg-shaped vessel and aged on lees for 6 months. The result is a wine with complex notes of lime, grapefruit pith, and mineral acidity, balanced by a touch of fine tannin and a round, mouthfeel from malolactic fermentation.
