Today Stolpman Vineyards stands proud with 13 acres of tightly spaced, head-pruned, revolutionary vineyard blocks. These blocks, entirely farmed by hand, singularly represent Peter and Jessica Stolpmans fanatical pursuit of unprecedented quality. The 2018 Own-Rooted Field-Blend is the first taste of the revolution: Perhaps the purist reflection of the vineyard: completely hands off, uncrushed grapes fermented whole, without any additives or sulfur. The goal here is to make a wine that reflects only their terroir and the mix of grapes they’veplanted here. Un-grafted Vinifera balance themselves, and we try to capture their most delicate nuance by avoiding extraction or other winemaking influences.
92 POINTS, WINE ADVOCATE:
The 2018 Stolpman So Fresh comes from an own-rooted field blend, with proportions of 31% Mourvdre, 23% Syrah, 23% Graciano and 23% Grenache. Vibrant ruby in color, it features warm blackberries, crushed blueberries, blackcurrant, black cherries and dark chocolate with violet and lilac perfume and peppery hints. Medium to full-bodied, it floods the mouth with ripe black and blue fruits framed by very firm, very chewy tannins and good freshness, finishing long and fruity. 350 cases produced. .
