Ren Rostaing’s IGP Syrah comes from old-vine parcels of vineyards attached to Cote-Rotie (just on the other side of the border. It is an incredible example of top quality, Cote-Rotie-like Syrah, fragrant and fruit driven, with attractive scents of raspberries, blackberries and licorice. It’s medium to full-bodied, with solid tannic clout on the finish that lets you know this isn’t just another easy-drinking Syrah.
93-94 POINTS, VINOUS:
Aromas of ripe, spice-tinged dark berries and pungent flowers are sharpened by sneaky mineral and spice flourishes. Spicy and focused on the palate, offering juicy blackberry, cherry and violet pastille flavors that are complicated by salty olive and cracked pepper nuances. Fleshes out with air while maintaining liveliness and finishes bright, spicy and quite long, displaying sharp clarity, even tannins and lingering florality.
