Artemisia absinthium
Wormwood use dates back to 1600 BC. It is the principal ingredient in the legendary liqueur Absinthe. While used historically as a beverage ingredient, currently the FDA advises against its use due to the presence of thujone, which is a neurotoxin. Though wormwood is still used in the production of vermouth and Campari, it is a variety other than Artmesia absinthium.
