A rare vintage delivering unexpected power and poise. Arneis, the noble white grape of Piedmont, traditionally shares its home with the great reds of Barolo and Barbaresco, though it reaches its peak in the Roero hills, where sandy, gravel-rich soils lend structure and refined minerality.
Our Marlborough site, with similarly stony soils near the Wairau River, offers Arneis the perfect environment to shine. The result is a wine of textural elegance and unexpected concentration: a pear-laced palate with creamy weight, lively acidity, and a fine mineral thread. It is both luscious and poised, with a long, sophisticated finish.
A flawless growing season and meticulous vineyard work delivered a vintage of rare purity. With yields kept under 1kg per vine, the fruit achieved exceptional flavour concentration and aromatic finesse. The berries, small and vibrant, ripened gradually and evenly, allowing us to harvest at peak condition. The resulting wine displays clarity, energy, and depth, with a quiet intensity that distinguishes this vintage as one of the finest to date.
To capture the delicate character of the fruit, I began with a brief cold soak to draw gentle flavour from the skins. The juice was then fermented with indigenous yeast in a single French puncheon, where it remained for 10 months with regular lees stirring to build texture and complexity.
True to my philosophy of minimal intervention, the wine was bottled unfined, unstabilised, and with only light filtration. The result is a pure, authentic expression of Arneis, layered, elegant, and driven by both place and precision.
Unapologetically full-bodied and complex, this vibrant Arneis doesn’t hold back. It captivates with typical aromas of pear and almond, showcasing its varietal character. Balanced acidity adds elegance to its concentrated profile, while a beautiful creamy texture envelops the palate. Impressively, it culminates in a long finish, a remarkable feat for a white wine without barrel aging.
