In 2001 Charles Ballot took over the running of the Domaine from his father Philippe and has since strived to establish it as one of the finest producers in Meursault. Domaine Ballot-Millot boasts an enviable selection of 1er Cru holdings and recent vintages have stood up admirably to the likes of Lafon in the annual blind Burgfest tastings. An insider’s secret, Ballot-Millots wines offer incredible quality and value – beautifully pure, racy whites that display great elegance and finesse and with the ability to age.
“The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Tte du Clos Morgeot 1er Cru comes from part of the climat with more limestone. It has quite a striking, menthol- and licorice-tinged bouquet that revels in the exoticism of the 2019 but does not allow it to impede upon the terroir. The palate is well balanced with pure fruit passion fruit, tinned pineapple chunks and a touch of spice and crushed stone toward the finish, which has plenty of extract. There is a sense of fun about this Chassagne that will make it tempting in its youth, but I suspect that its more intellectual side will only be revealed with bottle age. Drink 2023-2032.” Neal Martin, Vinous.com
