The 2007 Pontet-Canet is impressively rich and opulent, especially for a year that had some challenges. Its packed with ripe red and black fruits like blackberry and cherry, with lovely hints of violet and cassis. Theres a beautiful minerality that adds complexity, and the palate is full and smooth with a long, velvety finish. While its showing well now, this wine has great potential for further aging and will only improve in the next few years. It’s a bold, flavorful expression of Pontet-Canet that still has a lot to give.

Wow. Minerals, cedar, almost like warm stones in the heat. And then some spice. A wine that?s gorgeous, beautiful to taste now, but you know there?s so much more coming to it. Will be better in three to five years. But it’s already gorgeous, decant a couple hours in advance.

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits’ 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Pontet-Canet has an upfront bouquet with (for the vintage) quite lavish red and black fruit tinged with violet and creme de cassis. The palate is sweet and opulent, displaying impressive concentration and a velvety blueberry and black cherry finish that lingers long in the mouth. You would never ascribe this to the 2007 vintage, a Pontet-Canet determined to overcome the limitations of the growing season. In a sense, it succeeds, yet it must sacrifice some of its Bordeaux typicit? in the process. Tasted February 2017.

Sweet, spicy and dark fruited. Unusually ripe and sweet on the palate. Lots of spice, firmly textured and full of flavour. Not particularly elegant but full-flavoured and long without any herbaceousness and still a good life ahead. Impressive fruit depth.

After a particularly hot and dry April, the next 4 months were dominated by rain and cold temperatures. These conditions allowed a long flowering period as well as favouring the vine diseases. We are probably more exposed to mildew than others due to our method of viticulture. Therefore, we reacted quickly by cutting the affected bunches and those which had not changed colour yet towards the end of August.
Fortunately, good weather conditions returned in September allowing for a good maturation.

Very deep robe.
Explosive nose of black and red fruits with a beautiful minerality that one finds in recent vintages of Chateau Pontet-Canet.
On the palate, the attack is full and leaves great length with finesse whilst subtlety conserving the tannins strength so characteristic of this vintage.
The length is impressive with a beautiful freshness. The tactile sensations on the palate persist in a very long finish. The velvet texture no longer describes the tannins but more that of lace. It is a very beautiful wine which once more shows the greatness of Chteau Pontet-Canets terroir.
