Juniperus communis
Juniper berries are usually known as the principal flavoring in gin, but they are also used to flavor beer and other beverages. Native Americans have utilized juniper for its healing powers and to relieve arthritis. A folklore legend held that a juniper planted outside a front door would help keep out witches because they had to correctly count the plant’s needles before entering the house.
