Billy Dee Williams grew up in Harlem, New York City where his family nurturedhis artistic abilities. He made his acting debut on Broadway at the age of seven and also in his school years he attended the High School of Music and art. He was awarded the prestigious Hallgarten Award Scholarship to attend the National Academy of Fine Arts and Design.In order to earn money to buyart supplies, Billy Dee Williams pivotedto acting despite theopposition ofhis art professors and thus forth became a well-knownperforming actor.
He has had numerousexhibitions and recognition across the United States. His paintings are included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Gallery, Washington DC, the Schomburg Center for Research and Black Culture, New York, African American Museum, New Orleans, the Museum of Jazz, Kansas City and private collections.
