Vadio Branco is a blend of 40% Bical, aged for 10 months in used French oak, and 60% Cercial, aged in stainless steel tanks. It comes in at 12.5% alcohol. Fresh and clean, this handles its wood rather welljust when you think it is going to show wood, bursts of acidity overtake it. This has fine tension on the finish and that crisp, lively feel. Yet this isn’t just a summer white, as refreshing as it is. It should hold nicely for several years and continue to evolve with cellaring.
91 POINTS, WINE ADVOCATE:
The 2018 Branco is a 60/40 blend of Cercial and Bical (the Bical only was aged for eight months in used French oak). It comes in at 13% alcohol. Solid in the mid-palate but still fresh and a little spicy, this has a long finish surrounded by acidity. The wood is beautifully handled. This had no malolactic fermentation because the 2018 acidity was lower than in 2017, said the winemaker. That technique worked well here, as this certainly seems bright. I hate to be a broken record, but this is another fine white in this very consistent bottling. It should age very well and perhaps will be better in a year or two.
