Discovering 100-year-old vines of Zinfandel, Carignane, Mouvedre, and newer plantings of unique varietals like Teraldego, Tannat, Barbera, and Petite Sirah just a stone’s throw from San Francisco was unexpected. Upon exploration, we were amazed to find such a diverse array of grapes within an hour of Dashe Cellars winery. In the fertile delta soils of the San Francisco Bay, where the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers converge, we uncovered a treasure trove of superb grapes waiting to be crafted into a distinctive wine.

The cool breezes and hot days of the area proved ideal for nurturing interesting red grapes, leading to the creation of a “Delta Red” blend. Through meticulous blending, we achieved a luscious, delicious wine we simply call “Delta Reds,” surpassing our expectations. This wine boasts flavors of black raspberry, currant, plum, cranberry, and pomegranate, with spicy hints of black pepper, tar, and earth. Its lush, velvety texture and balanced fruit flavors make it an attractive choice.

Pair Delta Reds with spicy barbecue ribs or tangy pulled pork sandwiches to enhance its subtle oak notes and balanced acidity, creating a perfect harmony with smoky, savory flavors.
